Superflex
Superflex
Let me first say that I love the central idea and goal of this program! Superflex is a program that can be for both parents and educators. To assist educators and parents in setting up a customized Superflex Superhero Training Academy for their students, the Superflex Curriculum provides lesson ideas. Students discover that everyone has the ability to become super flexible and that they can change into their own unique Superflex. Superflex Takes on Rock Brain and the Team of Unthinkables, a 21-page comic book, is included with the course materials. How Aiden developed his super flexible thinking abilities to become Superflex is the subject of this comic! The student's barriers to understanding the behaviors are broken down by depicting them as comic book characters, and the superhero Superflex aids in developing the critical thinking skills needed to control their actions and reactions.
Students can express their sentiments, intentions, and points of view using Superflex. It gives kids channels for talking to their friends, teachers, and parents about their behavior. Students are encouraged to utilize coping mechanisms modeled in the comic book to deal with those behaviors.
The goal of this program is to help students find their own Superflex capabilities. This program would ideally be used in elementary as a Tier 1 but Superflex Curriculum has other resources that educators could use in a tier 2 or 3 if needed to further work on self-regulation. This program aims to focus on strengths, and it builds confidence in children so again at any Tier this program could be used.
I chose this program because I believe this program it is a unique way to get students motivated in developing social awareness. I think that it would really interest children without looking "baby-ish", like some older children believe social stories do. Kids love comic books and developing social awareness is the first step in developing self-control and self-regulation strategies. I love that there are different comic books with different characters! This keeps students engaged interested. See image below. They are some examples of comics that students can read about and learn from.
